On January 26 and 27, Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority participated in the HUD mandated Point in Time (PIT) Count. BRHA is an active member of the Cumberland Plateau Local Planning Group which heads up the PIT Count efforts for the City of Bristol, Virginia and most of Southwest Virginia.
This effort by agencies that make up the Local Planning Group is an activity that counts and gains information about those who are homeless in the Bristol area. Basic information is gathered and submitted to HUD where it translates into community dollars.
Bristol is fortunate to have two excellent shelters that provides emergency housing to those who have no place to live. Two churches also provide help, food and support to those who need them. Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church and Anchor Baptist provide basic needs. They will also help find employment and gain the documentation needed to get into permanent housing. The PIT count captures the required information, but most importantly it reminds everyone what a great community we have. Those surveyed received gift bags as an incentive to participate. Bristol cares and shows that to those who need it.
