Resiliency Begins at Home: Making Housing Safe, Stable, and Affordable

As localities across Virginia are exploring how to adapt to climate change and other external stressors, what role should housing play? Changes to building codes, master plans, and land use all affect housing supply and affordability. Rather than viewing this issue as a challenge, housing experts and advocates should see resiliency as an opportunity to create long-term affordability and security.

Housing Virginia led a keynote panel on resiliency and housing at the 2019 Annual Conference for the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association. Watch the video below to listen to the presenters explore questions that include: What is a resilient home? What is a resilient neighborhood? And, how do we incorporate equity and housing affordability into resiliency planning? http://www.housingvirginia.org/
