Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority was proud to have a representative at the Regional Opioid Symposium on June 28th, at Highlands Fellowship Church. In partnership with the Virginia Overdose Response Strategy Team and the Virginia Department of Health this event brought together law enforcement, first responders, public health, mental health, hospitals with emergency departments, and community coalitions to learn to use ODMap and develop a spike response strategy to help reduce drug overdose deaths in our community. ODMAP provides near real-time suspected overdose data across jurisdictions to support public safety and public health efforts to mobilize an immediate response to a sudden increase, or spike, in overdose events. Linda Austin, the Executive Director of the Appalachian Substance Abuse Coalition (ASAC) was a member of the discussion panel. Linda is a regular attendee of the Bristol Coalition Meetings, here at BRHA. We are excited to be part of something that can change the outlook of our community in such a positive way!
