Ready, Set… “Read Across America”!

DrSeuss Day is a holiday that celebrates the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel – otherwise known by the pen name by which he authored children’s books: DrSeuss. During the 1990s, the National Education Association advocated for “READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY” as a way to promote children’s reading.

“READ ACROSS AMERICA”, a year-round program and the nation’s largest celebration of reading, focuses on motivating children and teens to read!

  1. Keep books everywhere you spend time. Put them in the car, in every room of the house, and tuck them in backpacks and purses. …
  2. Visit the library often. …
  3. Get caught reading. …
  4. Read to your children. …
  5. Have your children read to you, too.
BRHA Executive Assistant, Cathy Littreal, reads “Hop on Pop”, a Dr. Seuss classic published in 1963.
