Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program Celebrates Recent Graduate

Stephanie Phillips recently graduated from the Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS).  This represents a lot of hard work.  Stephanie came into the FSS program when she moved into BRHA.  She knew what she wanted to accomplish and set goals to work toward that big goal.  She wanted to become a nurse.

Stephanie was a student at Virginia Highlands Community College in their nursing program.  She was able to graduate and gain employment at a local nursing home.  She accomplished her big goal!

Once Stephanie was able to gain employment, her rent went up.  Her rent increased due to earned income and she was a member of the FSS program, so her escrow account started.  The difference in her rent was deposited every month into her escrow account when she paid her rent.  This is a wonderful advantage of the FSS program and available to every participant.  When Stephanie completed her goals and found a full-time job, she was able to graduate from the program and receive her escrow money.  That is cause for celebration!

The Family Self-Sufficiency program is open to any resident of BRHA who wants help in finding a job or finding a better job.  Resident Services staff will help anyone to set goals for their family and move forward.  There are many opportunities available.  Please call 276-821-6270 for more information or an appointment to enroll.
