We were very pleased to be the host agency for a portion of the tour of SW Virginia that Joseph DeFelice, HUD Region III Administrator, conducted this week. Mr. DeFelice, accompanied by Elvis Solivan, Regional Senior Advisor, and Carrie Schmidt, Director of the HUD Richmond Office, visited the housing authorities in Roanoke and Wytheville, finishing up at the Bristol Redevelopment and Housing Authority. BRHA hosted Mr. DeFelice’s meeting with the Little 10 Public Housing Authorities of Southwest Virginia, and then took his party on a tour of our Village at Oakview affordable housing development, as well as to Birthplace of Country Music Museum (BCMM).

The group also visited several venues along the way that have been developed with partial funding from HUD’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), including Heartwood in Abingdon, and the BCMM in Bristol.

This was a great opportunity to showcase the great work that housing authorities in SW Virginia are doing, as well as how our communities are using CDBG funds to support regional economic growth.
